Hello, I would like to request administrator rights at the Jamaican Wikipedia. I've already been it here and I would like to continue with my work in the new Wikipedia. (Steward requests/Permissions) --Katxis (talk) 17:14, 11 May 2016 (UTC) [12:14, 11 Mie 2016 (EST)]

- I would like to thank you for your offer, however you haven't done enough contributions. --Katxis ( talk) 08:53, 27 Mie 2016 (EST)
- I have to agree with User:Katxis about this. I think you're off to a good start making contributions. Please keep up the good work! But you've just joined Wikipedia altogether—not only here, but in other language projects as well. It's true this is a new Wikipedia, but Katxis has been involved in other Wikipedia projects before, and is an administrator in at least one other. So we know he knows how to be an administrator. If you stay active over the next 3–6 months, consider asking again. StevenJ81 ( talk) 09:20, 31 Mie 2016 (EST)

- Rizolt 1–1. With the kind permission of Katxis, who nominated this, and Yocahuna, who was the principal author—and anyone else interested in replying—I will close this as having sufficient support to be a good article, rather than a featured article. But I would also say that as long as we have very few of these, if we start putting rotating articles on the front page, we can include good articles for now. Katxis's initial term as administrator for three months expires on August 18. I nominate Katxis to continue as administrator here for at least six months, and if others agree, as long as one year. (In a small community like this stewards are unlikely to approve a longer term.) StevenJ81 (talk) 10:10, 9 Aagos 2016 (EST)

- Comment. In principle, I'm ok with this. But I'd point out that on most Wikipedia projects, one criterion for "featured article" status is that there be few, or better yet no, redlinks. This page has a large number of red links. So I would rather have called this a "good article" for now. But I'll leave that up to you two. StevenJ81 (talk) 09:23, 8 Septemba 2016 (EST)
- Comment. Steven is right about the redlinks but I believe in this Wikipedia we can consider it a featured article, so I vote "yes". DARIO SEVERI (talk) 19:07, 8 Septemba 2016 (EST)
- I have to say that I am not very sure about having a distinction between good and featured articles in here. We haven't got too many editors and we cannot apply the rules of other Wikipedias with much more people. I understand your point @StevenJ81 but we have different circumstances here. --Katxis (talk) 02:42, 9 Septemba 2016 (EST)
- You've mentioned that before. That's your call and the community's. Still: my main concern is that I also want this Wikipedia to be seen as one whose best articles can be taken seriously. You have seen comments here where people do not take Patois seriously. I'd almost be happier making all of these "good articles" rather than "featured articles", because I don't want people to say, "That's a featured article? This isn't a serious Wikipedia." StevenJ81 (talk) 08:49, 9 Septemba 2016 (EST)
- But for instance, the articles like Jumieka and hischri have a lot of information and are well referenced. Even if there are still links in red, the articles by themselves comply with the label "featured article". The other ones are completed that is, they have all the information that is possible to talk about them and they have references; however they aren't as long as the abovementioned ones. Shall we take them as featured as well, maybe those qualify for good instead of featured? The thing is that we won't add more information to them because there isn't more so, as they are in the best way we can write them, why not make them featured? Are we taking the number of bytes as a measure for been eligible for a featured article? I believe that if they are complete and well referenced, organised and with bibliography and links, they could apply for a featured article? What do you think? Which criteria should we use? --Katxis (talk) 14:07, 9 Septemba 2016 (EST)

- I don't mean to suggest the articles themselves weren't good enough or needed more information. I only mean that there is a certain expectation of what a featured article has and a lot of red links is not one of them.
- Still, this is a small wiki, just starting out, and we want to showcase content, too. So let me propose the following:
- I use as my guides simple:Requirements for good articles and simple:Requirements for very good articles. Simplewiki's requirements are very understandable, and the process at enwiki is far too involved, cumbersome and burdensome for a wiki like this one.
- There are only a couple of differences between the two sets of requirements. On the whole I would aspire to using the VGA (FA) requirements in the long run, but maybe for now it's sufficient if our FA's meet simplewiki's GA standards.
- Given that, there are actually a couple of things that really ought to be cleaned up in current FA's, but I'll leave that to you.
- The one place I'd choose to be a little stricter than simplewiki's GA standards is that I'd like to see no redlinks in the lead section of the article. If someone goes to a supposed FA and the very beginning is full of redlinks, I'd find that problematic. If we either (a) temporarily remove links in the lead, or (b) write stubs to cover topics from the lead, so that the lead is at least free of redlinks, I'd find that sufficient.
- I'm only one member of the community, and far from the most important. If the community wants to handle this differently, that's the community's business. But please consider these thoughts going forward. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:17, 13 Septemba 2016 (EST)
- It rang me bell when you mentioned the red links (happens the same in the Esperanto Wikipedia). Let's do something then: let's keep this votation as it is. I will complete most of the red links and then we will accept it as a featured article. I am still finishing the one on Bab Maali so once it 's done I'll get back to this one. --Katxis (talk) 02:33, 14 Septemba 2016 (EST)

I would like to propose this article for a good article and then, once all the red links have been completed, we will move it into a featured one.

- Naturally, I`d support this. (MA, I`m pretty sure this wiki subscribes to global bot policy. Do you know if any of the global bots (like Xqbot) run here?) StevenJ81 (talk) 08:33, 28 Julai 2017 (EST)
- Hi StevenJ81 and thanks for your support. Meta indeed lists this wiki as a global bot wiki, however archiving discussions is not covered by the automatic approval clause of the global bot policy so if I want to run that service as well I have to ask nonetheless. I do not know if globally flagged bots do run on this wiki currently but as for Xqbot, Special:Contribs/Xqbot is empty. Regards, --MarcoAurelio (talk) 16:43, 31 Julai 2017 (EST)
- @MarcoAurelio Thanks. I understood why you had to ask for permission here. I just wondered if any of the others were running on their permitted tasks.
- I don't do all that much on this wiki, but for whatever reason I'm the one who tends to close RfA's and similar !vote types of events here. So I'm watching this one through 05:00, 4 August 2017 (EST) [10:00 UTC]. I would be quite surprised if anyone else comments here (except to react to what I just wrote). StevenJ81 (talk) 16:56, 31 Julai 2017 (EST)
- ...and in any event, I don't think more than one bot needs to run any of those services here. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:57, 31 Julai 2017 (EST)

Hi! I'm requesting for permanent adminship on the Jamaican patois Wikipedia. Currently, there are no Jamaican administrators, and not much users to contribute. I humbly ask for the userright, so I can do admin tasks, such as: move pages, revert vandalism, and get a hold of tools to help contribute and edit effectively to the wiki.
